In this example three sensors are used to make sure the plastic is rolled to a consistent thickness. The sensor on the bottom closest to the rollers is set to detect the plastic. The other two sensors are set so that they just do NOT sense the plastic. If a thickness variation occurs, one or both of them will switch.

For plastics and other low di-electric constant materials, shielded sensors are recommended.
